Giorgio Fazer

Band description

Giorgio Fazer - Polish ambient duo - the collaboration of Mateusz Franczak (Daktari, How How) and Miron Grzegorkiewicz (JAAA!, M8N, Daktari, How How). Franczak and Grzegorkiewicz - both solo artists as well - have set out a beautiful statement of i ntent for their project. Giorgio Fazer’s music i s a mixture of i mprovised guitar, electronics, and voice. The band performs both closed, composed forms and free i mprovisation. The band has described the poetry as having helped them find the l yrical nature, the sensuality, and a variety of i nterpretation that has helped them develop this first piece of work. The most i mportant l ink, however, i s the building of mood, of contemplation, and of asking questions that do not have simple answers: Who are we? What do we l ive for, and What does i t mean to be Polish?

Mateusz Franczak

A multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, i mproviser, whose music has been favourably compared to Smog, Papa M, Vincent Gallo, Talk Talk and Bon Iver. He has collaborated with such musicians as: Hugo Race, Piotr Kurek, Patryk Zakrocki, Paweł Szamburski, Hubert Zemler, and Resina among others. He i s a co-founder of and a participant i n numerous i nterdisciplinary artistic projects and workshops (including SIM - The School for Improvisational Music, NY, USA). He has performed at major music and art festivals i n Poland and abroad, i ncluding: Eurosonic Noorderslag, OFF Festival, Enea Spring Break, Zandari Festa, c/o pop Festival, Open’er Festival or Liverpool Sound City.

Miron Grzegorkiewicz (aka M8N)

A seasoned musician, producer, user experience designer, non-certified theatrical researcher, visual arts j unkie, and a member of numerous music and performance art projects. Most famous for his work with an alternative dance electronic music collective JAAA!, which already toured Polish and European festivals, i ncluding Primavera Sound, Reeperbahn and Open’er.

In 2017, Giorgio Fazer's debut album entitled "Gorzki to chleb jest polskość" [Bitter Bread i s Polishness] was released by Too Many Fireworks Records. The album consists of i mprovised tracks for two guitars, electronics and voices. All compositions referred to selected poems by 20th century Polish poets. Two years l ater, the band released a mini-album containing a recording of a concert in the Krakow Alchemy Club, entitled "Live at Alchemia" (2019, Too Many Fireworks Records).

In 2020, the band released a new album entitled “Odarci z godności” [Stripped of Their Dignity] (2020, Somnambulic Recordings) - a soundtrack to Polish westerns, which have never been created. The dream of most boys was to enter the world of the wild west. Unfortunately, Polish cinematography had no l uck with films of this genre. Giorgio Fazer carried out an experiment of sound reproduction of "Westernity" in Polish reality, which i s full of similar attitudes, but dressed in different costumes

All of the albums gained critical acclaim with magazines, blogs and radio stations in Poland.

Throughout 2017 and 2019 the band toured i n Poland and abroad, which resulted in establishing cooperation with i ndependent Belarusian artists and i nvitations to music and art festivals.

In 2020 Giorgio Fazer composed music for two film productions. The first one i s the documentary "Między nami" [Between Us] directed by Dorota Proba (Award for the Best Polish Film i n the Millennium Docs Against Gravity competition). The second production is an alternative soundtrack to the animated film of the world award-winning Karolina Głusiec entitled "Dureń" [The Fool].
